Moved recently and am interested in other FFers locations for the ceiling "hooks" that suspend the sling - i.e. distance from side to side and from head to foot. Given a standard USA 8' ceiling and normal home construction (ceiling joists on 16" centers). Anyone?

I searched the web a few years looking for instructions on how to hang a sling. The best advice I found was that the hooks should be located at least a foot out diagonally from each corner of the sling. After drilling several holes in my ceiling, my hooks ended up closer to 2 feet out from each corner so that guy in the sling could be comfortably stretched open when his legs were strapped to the chains. You also want to make sure the hooks are securely screwed into the center of the ceiling joints. An electronic stud finder will help you find the centre of the joists. Use closed loop eye bolts rather than open loop hooks, and err on having the hooks be too big. A body in motion in the sling, exerts more pressure on the chains and hooks than just his weight. A helpful dyke working at Homo Depot helped me choose suitable hooks and chains.

Thanks for the responses. I used the equidistant at about 1' (location of ceiling joists determined that). Tried it out Sat. night. Oh, boy. Just right! :)
